7) When you're out in windy weather, keep you hair tied back or pinned up to prevent it from blowing into massive tangles.

8) Never use tight elastics or bobbles in your hair as they break the hair shafts. Instead, use hair elastics that are covered in a thin layer of cloth such as squishies, or large barrettes or clips.

9) Don't expose your long hair to the icy cold weather because hair (especially damp hair) can freeze and break. Keep your hair protected with a hat or toque or scarf.

10) Avoid being in the presence of second-hand smoke because hair absorbs smoke very quickly, especially if it is freshly washed. The smoke not only dries out your hair but coats it with destructive pollutants, leaving it damaged and reeking with an unpleasant dead smell.

11) Trim the very ends of your hair at least once a month to remove any minor split ends.

12) If you're going to colour your hair, you should let a hair colourist do it for you so that it is done professionally and with the least amount of stress to your hair shafts. However, if you are going to do it yourself, make sure you choose a quality hair colour product rather than compromising with something less because of the cheaper price. Quality is the issue so ask your hairdresser which boxed product is best.

Caring for your hair isn't something you have to concentrate on with any great expense or effort. It's a lifestyle that is easy to follow and reaps beautiful rewards.
