How to care for long hair

Long hair can be your crowning glory and it requires special care and a little more effort than short hair, but it's worth it. Keeping your long hair healthy and beautiful means being consistent with good hair care. Here are some tips to keep your long hair healthy and looking beautiful.

1) Use a quality shampoo that not only cleanses, but nourishes the hair and the scalp by restoring and maintaining healthy, natural beauty.

2) Rinse your hair with a quality conditioner that is formulated without sulphate, silicone and superficial colours. Conditioners should condition the hair shafts while smoothing and restoring each cuticle of the hair. This not only makes your hair healthy and without split ends, but easy to manage because you won't have tangles that will break the hair shafts.

Avoid inexpensive shampoos and conditioners that dry the hair and scalp.

3) After you have towel dried your hair, add a quality leave-in moisturizing conditioner to further treat and maintain your healthy, beautiful hair. Put a large drop into your hands and gently comb it through the hair shafts with your fingers. This will release any knots that may have come when washing or towel drying your hair, and your comb will glide through without any effort. Avoid inexpensive leave-in moisturizers as some will give you dry scalp and cause your hair to dry out and split.

Note: If you wear your hair down often, you might want to wash it more often because it will be exposed to the unkind elements and become like a magnet that attracts all kinds of things including pollutants and dust.

4) You may want to add some mousse to the hair on the top of your head to give it body when you're styling it, but don't put too much on the rest of your hair as the weight of the hair will prevent any amount of volume anyway.

5) Avoid harsh hair processes such as bleach and perms because they literally destroy the hair shafts, cause split ends and frizz, and can permanently burn out the roots. These processes pull out the moisture from each shaft breaking the inside cuticles and leaving the hair brittle and with split ends that will continue to split right up to the scalp because the entire shafts are cracked and damaged.

6) When you're sleeping, tie your hair gently back with something loose like a squishy - not an elastic. This will allow your hair to stay tied together without causing any breakage to the shafts, and it will prevent any breakage caused from your hair pulling while you sleep on it or tangles that
