Short stories: Emotions

by Amy Gallagher

Created on: September 18, 2008

Meghan and her husband had just moved into their apartment and had only been living in it for a few brief weeks. They were just settling in. The 5"1 young woman decided to go out and see a movie, at a nearby drive-in theatre. She was hoping that it would take her mind off the argument she just had with her husband. But it was useless. The movie wasn't helping.

Her soda and popcorn was still left untouched. She didn't pay much attention to the story unfolding on the big screen in front of her, her car and the cars present in the drive-in. She couldn't help but replay the argument in her mind.
Meghan felt her heart aching inside her chest. She didn't like arguing with him. She knew that this was the relationship she wanted to be in, but since they moved in, there seems to be more arguments and she appeared to be a lot more moody than she is. She simply couldn't explain it. "What is going on? What's wrong with me?" Meghan kept asking herself.
The young green-eyed brunette decided to take a deep breath and try to bring back her mind onto the screen just above the three rows of cars in front of her.
At this point in the movie, the lead couple was having an argument. Meghan recognized the scene, as the part of the story when nothing seems to be going right in the relationship of the couple in the movie.
"Oh, great timing, Meghan! Right time to bring your attention back!" Meghan thought. She came to see a movie to take her mind of her relationship, but instead, she was watching a movie that only reminded her of that.
Meghan took a deep breath and felt her heart aching more than before. She looked down at her soda and her snack. The popcorn simply made her a little nauseous. She didn't even feel in the mood to drink her soda, which as a general rule helped her deal with her nausea.
She moved around in her car seat. It took her about two to three minutes to find a comfortable position. Meghan knew that it wasn't the seats of her car that was the problem. It was the quarrel with her fianc that was making her so uneasy.
The seats, her fianc, apartment, job, and the movie, none were the problem. Meghan knew that the problem was with her. She had been like this for almost a week.
"Why think about it? I'm not going to solve anything now," she told herself, in a low voice. She tried again to bring back her attention to the movie, as it was her reason for going there. Much like all the people, who had driven their cars to the drive in tonight and had parked their cars next to her.
But as soon as she brought her attention to the movie, her mind wondered back to her fianc, her relationship, and her life.
