Designer fragrances are so popular because our vanity, pride and status makes them popular. I wonder if the question was put out into the void that asked if we like our designer fragrance, how many of us would be honest and say we do. Or how many people would say they wear it because it's popular.
There are many designer fragrances that deserve the reward of being great because they are unique, quality fragrances that are desirable and appealing. Their scent lasts a long time because it's perfume and you feel special when you wear it. And the price is worth it.
But there are so many more designer fragrances that are not quality and they do have a unique scent that lures you to them. They cost an astronomical amount of money and only because of their name, and of their creator.
And why is the creator of the fragrance so important? Because they are the ones who sponsor colognes and other body products for the big celebrities. And what do the big celebrities have to do with the designer fragrance?
The celebrities endorse different designer fragrances. Many of them become the spokesperson for every part of that particular designer product. And why is that important to us?
Because we, the wanna be followers, want to be as close to our favourite celebrities as possible. That's why we dress like them, wear our hair like them and wear the same designer fragrances as them.
And big business knows that we will buy anything that the celebrities tell us to, just because they told us to. So, whether the creator of the fragrance is a well-known name or one of the celebrity's neighbours, the fact that the celebrity says we should buy the fragrance puts that product in the front row of designer fragrances. Big bucks. Big sales.
So, you buy the product and tell your friends what it's called. They want to have a "quality" fragrance just like you have so they buy it, as well. And so the circle of vanity goes around and around in a ripple affect until everyone we know is wearing the same fragrance. Our lust embellishes the pockets of people who we'll never meet or who will never even care if we exist. And they get richer because people like us want to be recognized as being like our Hollywood heroes.
Whether we like the fragrance or not is not even an issue. It's whether someone else will notice that we are wearing this particular designer fragrance, and that is worth more to many people that the actual fragrance.
So, why are designer fragrances so popular? Probably because for many of us, our ability to recognize a good scent has drifted from our nose to our eyes.
