The easiest way to get a permanent resident visa in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is to marry a citizen. Short cuts such as obatining the identity of a British citizen for the sake of a British passport do lead to deportation and banishment for at least five years providing that no felonious record exists. A felonious record can lead to permanent banishment with other repercussions.

It is much easier for persons from the European Union or the Commonwealth of Nations.Those who are heavily funded such as the new millionnaires from Russia, India and China and probably Brazil are welcome. St. John's Wood in London is a favourite haunt of Emigrant Russian millionnairs who find the area reminiscent of their Dachas in their homeland. This has lead to the dislocation of bank managers and other middle class British Natives. Doubtless all the dislocated were able to use their skills to enjoy satisfactory reimbursement in the the over-heated London market.

Skills can be a useful way to acquire permanent resident status in the United Kingdom. A few years ago lawyers with a hundred thousand pounds, a business plan and the ability to hire to British persons were permitted. I would not wish to move there as a foreign national with a mere hundred thousand pounds. One would hope that any such lawyers had private funds seperated form their business options.

Traditionally British citizens have travelled and sought employment and business interests in other nations. The Commonwealth and former colonies including the United States of America. Most British citizens choose to rent out their homes in the U.K. to ensure a satisfactory home base. Currently more British and European businesses are involved in the purchase of United States businesses that are insolvent or borderline. The Barclays Group has purchased the Lehman Bank.

One has to hope that the more cautious British financial thinking is applicable and training given to any U.S.A. citizens that are hired. This may leave other opportunities open to citizens hired in the USA and help restore a proper and prudent financial outlook in Wall Street. Currently the worlds greates clearing banks are bailing out the USA. These include the European Bank and the Bank of England. The United Kingdom may be in Europe but chose to retain its own currency and financial centre.
