Poetry: Roses

Roses Speak

Words of love I longed to say
lay silent in my heart.
My shyness held my tongue at bay
terrified to start.

I had to find a way to tell you
of my love for you.
And if by chance within your heart
you hid these feeling too.

So rather than the words of love
I longed to say to you.
I gave you colored roses
that spoke of love so true.

First I gave you roses white
petals soft and pure.
Their meaning spoke of honesty
sincerity and more.

Then yellow roses shouted
you are my closest friend.
I'll stand besides you ever more
our bond will never end.

The roses red spoke of passion
and of my desire.
I wanted you to understand
you set my world on fire.

I used the colored roses
to say my words to you.
Words of love I couldn't say
yet prayed somehow you knew.

The roses told my feelings
no words were said aloud.
Perhaps I should have spoken
without my voice so cowed.

Yes roses give a message
that words often convey.
The roses speak of feelings
and what one wants to say.

Today you gave a rose to me
the color was Pale Blue.
Surprisingly the message said.
"I'm not in love with you!"
