What is Autism?

Autism is a developmental neurological disability. It usually appears during the first three years of life. People that have Autism Spectrum Disorder vary in different degrees of severity. There is no known cause of this neurological disorder. Studies have shown that one 150 people are born with Autism, and boys have a great risk at one in ninety-four.

The disorder affects how they communicate and interact with others. There is no known cure for Autism. But according to research it is treatable, with varying results. Children don't outgrow Autism. But if it is diagnosed early enough it can lead to marked improvement.

There are many signs to look for in your children:

A) Not talking when other children that age can
B) They repeat noise, or languages and mannerisms
C) They don't make direct eye contact
D) Constant rocking, in a back and forth motion.
E) Fixating on certain objects
F) Lack of interest in other children or adults

Autism is one of the disorders that falls under Pervasive Developmental Disorders. Also known as ( PDD). It is characterized under a category of Neurological disorders.
According to the United States of Department of Education and other government agencies, statistics show that 1.5 million Americans are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. The ASA estimates that the people affected in the next ten years are estimated to be about 4 million people.

According to a article I read, It stated that Autism knows no racial, ethnic, or social boundaries. It doesn't matter about family income levels, life choices, or education levels.
ASA-Autism Society of America tries to improve the lives of all people affected by Autism, by raising public awareness.
