How to cut side bangs

Side bangs are still popular in the world of haircut and fashion in general. However, you might be thinking that you have to go to a salon in order to get "realistic-looking" side bangs. You do not want to cut your side bangs yourself, because if you mess up, you might end up looking a little creepy or a little childish.

Well, fear no more of ghastly hair-cuts! This simple technique (and the following tips and tricks) will help you fend off hair-cut nightmares. I saw this technique recently done and I was amazed at how the hair-cut turned out. Instead of looking very unnatural, the hair actually looked like it grew out that way.

First, you might want to wrap a bedsheet around yourself, or something very cottony and sleek. You want to minimize the amount of small hairs that will fall into your clothes and thus, onto yourself.

Pour water into a spray bottle. If you do not have one handy, just pour water into a tall cup. You will then need a fine-tooth comb. Prepare your hair by combing it thoroughly, even if you are only cutting side bangs. You will minimize the amount of fly-away hair and you will make your work go faster.

When your hair is thoroughly combed, prepare it again by spraying it with the spray bottle or by dipping your fine-tooth comb into the cup full of water and then combing your hair with it.

To do side bangs, you will need to tip your head over (bend forward) and comb out your hair downwards. Then, separate some hair in the front, as if you were making complete bangs on the front. Stand up straight; your face should be covered with the hair that you intend to cut. Make it neater by carefully choosing how thick you want your side bangs to be (if you want it thicker, you will need at least 1" of hair from your front hairline).

Then, spray or wet-comb this separated section. You will not cut this whole section. Instead, you will need only three-fourths of it. Separate this three-fourths section and start cutting by using an upwards cutting motion. Do not cut straight, as this will give a very unnatural look. You should cut more length off with the hair that is farthest from the side of your head; the longer bangs should be touching the side of your head.

Continue to cut and trim until the desired length and shape is acquired. Remember to cut upwards and not horizontally. Once finished, take a shower and allow your hair to air-dry. Comb out the bangs and shape them to the side.
