Of course a college athlete who has declared for the NBA draft and goes unselected should be allowed to return to college( they normally sign up for a full scholarship not a partial two year or three year deal). It is first the duty of the college to educate our young men and women of today's society, in saying this I believe that if the college that the player attended and played for had surrounded the player in question with good influences, and people who are not out for themselves, but rather concern themselves with the player and his/her needs than this would not be an issue. However college's tend to surround these players with people who promise them the world or to boost the school's reputation. So how is it fair that a player who declares for the NBA draft and does not get selected because of various reasons becomes punished by not being allowed to finish there education. The only reason players declare for the draft is because they are ill informed about there skills and potential at the next level, and uneducated in the consequences of what could happen if all does not play out the way they and others expect. The college itself should take more pride in educating these young men and woman properly. Not only in text book smarts but life smarts as well. The parents who allow there children to go half way around the country expect and deserve to know that there children will be guided in the child's best interest and not the interest that best suits the university or college's bottom line of making a buck or two and exploiting our children. If a player declares early and goes unselected the bottom line is they should be allowed to return to there school and finish there degree. Now if they took any money from anyone then fine they lose the ability to still play on the team but the school should honor there initial commitment and allow the student to finish out there degree. If this is not allowed how can any college look at parents of players to be and say we will take care of your child and make sure they have the tools they need to succeed in life. Part of those tools you say you install is being able to make the right choice. Now if a player declares early and goes unselected was that the right choice? It is up to the college and university to take more interest in there players future not short term but long term. So in no way should a player be punished when it is the people who are around him that are responsible for influencing the wrong decision.
