"Yes" or "No" is the only answer. Or is it? How can such a complex issue be answered by a black or white answer? Is there really only two responses to this "question", or rather "dilemma" for so many?
To my point - I really do believe that a woman has the "right to choose", but some things do trouble me in the "Pro Choice" argument. It is all about the "right" of the female who is hosting the fetus. It's no one else's business. I beg you ..., does the choice for abortion really have no repercussions? A woman can walk out of the clinic afterward and know without doubt that she did the right thing and not think of it again for the rest of her life? I frankly doubt it. Your argument sounds like large steel doors slamming shut.
To the Pro Life point of view, is this a "legal" argument? Are governments the ones to make the choice for us? I have to hand it to Pro Lifers for continuing to demonstrate their beliefs in spite of the fact that "legally", they are the losers.
I believe a woman does have the final say or choice, if you will, but as with any choice, there are consequences. Choices are best not made in isolation even personal choices. A woman has a spouse/partner to consider. She has friends that can give advice. To lead her to believe that this is just her "own" choice is misleading. This is a complex situation and she needs to be well informed. She needs to know what is really involved in her choice.
Let's think for a moment. If every woman knew everything about the procedure, the "fetus/being" e.g. size and maturity, and hormonal changes that she is going to experience one way or another, and she is ready to take responsibility for her choice for the rest of her life, (she will think about it again), what will her choice be? Is she aware of all the options? I don't hear from Pro Choicers that a woman may choose to not abort due to religious reasons or personal feelings. (Do Pro Choicers care "when life starts" or is it too important to the cause to keep the lines blurred?)
For example, the woman may not be able to handle her emotions when she knows at what stage her fetus/being is and therefore, is not willing to destroy it. I don't hear from Pro Choicers that this is a legitimate choice for a woman to make. Is "to abort" the only right choice? If it is, then it ceases to be a choice and Pro Choicers are doing the same thing of which they are accusing their opponents.
I don't believe for a minute that Pro Lifers are the only ones that "tamper" with a women's emotions - on counsel to not abort. It is obvious that Pro Choicers also, only see things their way or there would be no argument. The argument of the Pro Choicers is weak after "the choice" part, because I guess once the woman has chosen, all is well.
We, as citizens of our country and the world, do not see eye to eye on any subject. We have our personal beliefs and feelings that may be influenced by religion, family, politics or other. I don't feel that government should make choices regarding abortion for us, but as citizens we should have the right to accurate counsel and the support to make such an important choice based on legitimate reasons besides just "rights".
Bottom line, I think that women will always make their own choices, legal or not; they always have.
