Coconut Oil - The Miracle Fat
I don't know about you, but growing up in the South I consumed a lot of high fat meals which I am sure did not help my health. As I have grown wiser and older, I have been researching natural Health methods to prevent diseases and up my immune system. There is a lot of literature out there on fats, but the most surprising I found was on Coconut Oil. Remember the good old days of going to the Movies and smelling that great popcorn? That was Coconut Oil. The "food police" came in and banned it for our own good; however, it turns out they were totally wrong! What a surprise....NOT. Research shows that longer-chained carbon fatty acids are not that good for you. They go into the bloodstream and are stored as fat. No so with Coconut Oil.
Coconut Oil is a short-chained carbon fatty acid (Lauric acid) and is a saturated fat. It has anti-microbial and anti-viral properties; matter of fact it is being used in treating AIDS patients where it reduces the "viral load." It is 50% Lauric Acid and the only other source of this concentration is in Breast Milk. It has also been found to have anti-protozoa properties against organisms like Guardia Lamblia. The mono glyceride in it is used by the body to destroy lipid coated viruses such as HIV, herpes and influenza. Now that sounds like a good deal to me! It also has weight loss properties in that it can up your metabolism by 30%. You see the fatty acids don't go into the bloodstream to be stored as fat, but rather they go directly to the Liver and are converted to energy. How great is that? Coconut Oil also can help lower cholesterol by promoting its conversion to prenonolone. Well sign me up!
I also found out that it doesn't get rancid because saturated fat has anti-oxidative effects. You can cook with it like any other fat; it can be used in frying up to 350-degrees. I use it now in everything and I take supplement Coconut Oil pills with my other herbs and vitamins. So go research the subject and try it out; saturated fats have had a bad rap for years but no more. Eat healthy and enjoy your life.
