One of the funniest movies of all time is “Some Like It Hot” starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, George Raft, Joe E.
Brown, and Marilyn Monroe. It was first shown in January, 1959 and produced by Mirisch Corporation and Ashton
Productions. It was directed by Billy Wilder. The two main characters are Joe (Tony Curtis) and Jerry (Jack Lemmon). They pretend they are girls so they can perform in a girl's band. Joe pretends he is a girl by the name of Josephine, and Jerry pretends he is Daphne. The lead singer of the girl's band is Sugar Kane Kowalczyk (Marilyn Monroe). But Joe and Jerry run into the Valentine's Day Massacre. The criminals (led by George Raft) are after them for most of the movie. Many of the scenes are very funny. The movie ends when Jerry reveals to Osgood Fielding III (Joe E. Brown) that he is a girl. Some Like It Hot won the academy award for best costume design (black and white movies), and was nominated for best actor (Jack Lemmon), best director (Billy Wilder), best writing for screenplay based on material from another medium (Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond), best cinematography (black and white movies), and best art direction (black and white movies).
Movies with comedy teams are very funny. The Marx Brothers (Groucho, Harpo, Chico, Marco, and Zeppo) are good in” A Day at The Races” (1937) and “Duck Soup” (1933). They were both first shown in the 1930s. In “A Day at The Races”, Harpo Marx tries to ride a horse in a horse race. It is hilarious when he can barely stay on his horse (Hi-Hat). The mirror Scene in “Duck Soup” is also funny. Another great comedy team is Laurel And Hardy, first appearing in silent films in the early 1920s. Their many short films are hilarious. Hardy is always scolding Laurel, and Laurel has a funny cry. “The Music Box” (1932) won the first Academy Award for best short subject.
Abbott And Costello is a comedy team that is not to be missed. Lou Costello is always hollering "Hey Abbott" when he needs help in their movies. One of their funniest parts is the "Who's on first?" routine. They made many revisions of the routine during the 1930s. The best version is in the movie “The Naughty Nineties” first shown in 1945. In some of their films they meet monsters like Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde, and Invisible Man. Also, Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin were a very funny team. “At War with The Army” is one of the funniest
