To definitively nominate certain films as being the "Best Movies Ever", one must take into account the fact that film is a universal language that speaks to all ages and races, men and women. Film is an artistic medium that has the ability to touch on a broad scope of topics, emotions, and subject matter. Taking these notions into consideration, it felt only right to select films that I would deem among the "best" in their respective genres.
ACTION: Batman Begins (2005) and Blade Runner (1982).
Batman Begins stars Christian Bale, Katie Holmes, Michael Cane, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Tom Wilkinson, and Cillian Murphy and is directed by Christopher Nolan.
This prequel to the Batman series of movies is quite possibly the most realistic of them all. Even though the story takes place in an unrealistic comic book world, Nolan made certain that the film centered around a very REAL mantra, "You have nothing to fear, but fear itself."
Blade Runner stars Harrison Ford and is directed by Ridley Scott. Blade Runner has been hailed by Sci-Fi and Thriller lovers everywhere as one of the most creative and unique films ever concocted. This film was groundbreaking in its day for its computer graphics and special effects. It essentially stood among a small list of great films that paved the way for the expansion of fantastical film images being able to be placed on the big screen.
ADVENTURE: 2001: Space Odyssey (1968) and Across the Universe (2007).
2001: A Space Odyssey stars is directed by Stanley Kubrick and won an Oscar for best effects. This Sci-Fi classic follows the evolution of man from ape to the final frontier of space. The film suggests that a mysterious monolith placed on earth by a higher force (God, aliens, etc.) essentially sparked the beginning of man's relationship with tools which transforms into a relationship with weapons which eventually turns into a man vs. machine scenario.
Across the Universe stars Evan Rachel Wood and Jim Sturgess and is directed by Julie Taymor. Nearly 40 years after the Beatles dominated the music world, Across the Universe bursts on the scene with a beautiful story of love during the Vietnam war. With hundreds of Beatles songs to choose from, the writers were able to weave together a strikingly "convenient" mixture of songs matching the context of the plot. It's truly mesmerizing.
ANIMATED: Snow White (1937) and Beauty and the Beast (1991).
Snow White is the first full length animated feature released to theaters by Walt Disney. When viewing
