When it was time for me to upgrade my cell phone, I did a lot of research, and I had several options. I was able to nail my decision down to four phones: The Apple iPhone, Blackberry Curve, Blackjack by Samsung, and the Palm Treo 750. I didn't like the lack of 3G on the iPhone or its cramped touchscreen keyboard. The battery life on the Blackjack and the lack of features on the Curve made the Treo 750 the easy winner. I bought my Treo and I was happy.
What's not to love? The Treo is like having a little computer hanging on your belt. It offers 3G internet service, a full keyboard, touch screen, Windows Mobile, a nonproprietary headphone jack, and the ability to accept mini SD cards up to 2GB. The phone allows you to compose text files, open power point files, and much more. Even though I didn't need all the features, I was glad I had them available to me. By the way, it also has excellent all quality.
The only problem I could see with the Palm Treo is that it was a little bigger and clunkier than other phones in its class. Although, I didn't mind this because it had other attributes in its favor. For example, it has a rubberized casing that appears to be very durable and scratch resistant. Who needs a small phone? I have a great phone, or so I thought.
It turns out that the Palm Treo 750 is quite possibly the most annoying cell phone I have ever owned. For no apparent reason, my Treo can be turned on, but it won't let me turn the phone on to make calls. Other times, it won't let me send text messages. In order to remedy either of these situations, I need to remove the battery cover and battery for a few seconds, replace it, then wait for the phone to restart itself. When it restarts itself, I then start getting pop-up notifications telling me it can't connect to the GPRS network. The touch screen is also much less responsive than it used to be. By the way, remember how I thought the rubberized case would be scratch resistant? Well, the color is coming off on the back.
I always considered Palm products to be of high quality, but my phone is far from it. If you are considering purchasing a new phone or PDA, I would strongly consider looking at a product from another company. With PDA's becoming more popular, there are several options that you are bound to be happy with. Just remember my experiences when you're making your purchase.
