Poetry: God's humor

by Steve Marshall

God fills you with a loving fondness of himself, to laugh himself into you.

God is a dollar a dozen penny pincher, of priceless love.
God is a fuller than full chamber pot, of humourless humour.
God is a God who is not a God, until he laughs through you.
God is fooling no one else but you, who has stopped laughing.
God loves you so funnily. You who are God, birthed in his mirth.

God allows you to see him only as you want to see him.
To really see God as he is though, hear him laugh, softly aloud.
Laughing with God, is to see God. You are in him, God now so proud.
God allows vision to mend your life, of all strife, while alone in the crowd.
With eyes now opened from laughing. Your yourself now on his behalf.

God fools no one but you, by foolishly allowing you to know him.
You often then refuse equally as foolishly to show him, you know him.
Never realising that the fool in him, is also the fool in you not laughing.
All of you is in God, and all of God comes to you, each sod, as you prod.
Allow yourself to see yourself as an equal part of God in God, not so odd.

Humour arrived as God allowed love to start itself breathing in you.
Love is humorously funny when breathed in as a joke to poke you anew.
Joking aside, humour arrives to find love in the humour, still laughing.
Laughing with God in the love. Humour is the soil of God's love, bathing.
Pain is never humorous, until you see the truth, pain flees from love's carving.

Love is humorously funny, as dying is humorously living.
Living to die, is laughing to cry, and dying is living from dying.
Humour is funnily enough never humorous to the sad, or to the dead.
Sadly, love is never felt, or had enough of, from finding hurting still skirting.
Love flirting in the spurting of pain, until humour sighs itself, God's love remains.

God only laughs a belly laugh of love commended, and recommended by him.
His laugh rolls forth into a planting of love in us, still seeing him only so dimly.
This is the truth of God's love in his humour, without fuss, but never so grimly.
Old ideas of a primly God must be all laughed away, and amended, with vim.
Humour is never as funny as love not given is painful, remaining in your heart, not laughing.
