Starting a family daycare business in your home

the less demanding, and even the "fun" side, of operating your own daycare business.

1) Decide on the time schedule of your operation. Generally, people work from 9am to 5pm. You will probably have to open and close at least an hour on either side, giving parents enough time to drop their children off and pick them up (considering the time it takes them to get to and from work). This often means that the daycare operator will have a very long day themselves. You can be looking at a 10 to 12 hour day.

2) You will have to decide on how much to charge parents per child. If you have doubts about a reasonable amount, call around to other childcare facilities to see what the going rate is in your specific area.

3) You will have to plan good healthy meals each day. You might have to consider feeding the children at least 2 meals per day and possibly one healthy snack (depending upon the amount of hours each child will be with you each day). *note: be sure to obtain a list of possible allergies from each parent.

4) You will need plenty of toys, books, art supplies and activities for the children (age conducive) in order to keep them well entertained and occupied. *note: in order to keep some of your operating costs down, consider purchasing second-hand items for your daycare business.

5) Again, depending upon the ages of the children in your daycare, you will need sufficient beds/mats/cribs for naptime and proper seating for meal times.

6) Be sure to have some "outdoor" activities planned on your weekly agenda as children do need stimulating activities to keep them occupied. You might want to consider certain outside activities such as visiting museums or parks or even just daily walks around the neighborhood.

There is a lot to consider when operating your own daycare business. It's not for everyone and it's not as easy as one might think at first glance, as it entails many responsibilities and legalities. However, if running your own family daycare business is something you would like to consider, it does offer many rewards as well. You are able to work from the comfort of your own home, it is a very lucrative business in this day and age, and the children are often very loving and fun to be around.

When taking all things into consideration, starting up your own daycare business in your home, might be the ideal job opportunity for you.
