measurements and dimension of the missing part, together with full details of the raw material that was used to manufacture this part.
Assuming that the part required is metallic in content, the next step is to locate your nearest blacksmith. These craftsmen still exist, as their services are still required in the horse world, on farms and as specialist attractions in historical and cultural visitor centres. You might also find a person with these skills working in one of the specialist Antique restorers organisations. All you need then to do is to provide your chosen craftsman or woman with the full details of the missing part and ask them to produce an exact copy using the materials and dimensions you have provided for them.
Although it is true that the part produced in this manner will not be authentic in terms of the year of its manufacturer, its authenticity will still be there in respect of the materials used, the dimensions and the colour of the part. You will find two results from taking this approach. The first is that your faithful antique car will be able to journey with you once more and the second is that an antique car is likely to retain much more value when a spare part of this type of authenticity is used as a replacement than if you had tried to replace it with a modern equivalent.
