The Internet has opened up the information pipelines for finding out where employment positions are which need to be filled. Many agencies and organizations have recognized this fact and most have created their own search engines for people to find listings. Other outside businesses have also recognized the value of job search engines and have developed websites to assist people in finding a job.
Government jobs used to be very hard to come by. If you didn't "know" someone or didn't have the knowledge of where to look to apply for a government job, these were very difficult to find. Today this has all changed because you can essentially find all of the information you are searching for in a rapid amount of time.
*USA Jobs.
If you are interested in applying for a job with the US federal government, this is one of the most comprehensive. The website is located at http://www.usajobs.gov/ and is one of the most best websites there is with thousands of listings across the US available.
On USA Jobs you can save "favorite" department and position listings and be able to pinpoint specific areas in your search; this site also offers other tools such as storing your resume and posting it to be made available. You can also download any necessary general or specialized forms you may need to apply. For filing an application for a federal job, USA Jobs is one stop shopping.
*Government Job Search
Located at http://www.federaljobsearch.com/ , this is a great website to use when looking for US government job listings. You can search by career field or by location to help you find precisely what you are looking for.
*US Search.gov
Another useful website when searching for US government jobs is http://usasearch.gov/. It doesn't break down according to state or field, but you can punch in targeted key words into its search engine and it will bring you to pages which will further aid you in your search.
For instance if you type in "probation officer", it will return a list of many hyperlinks which show jobs in many areas of the US. If you type in a specific department you would like to become employed in you will be directed to listings relating to this department.
*Government Jobs Direct
If you reside in the UK you might want to explore http://www.governmentjobsdirect.co.uk/ . While I have never personally experienced finding a job on this website since I reside outside of the UK, by exploring the website it does appear to contain a comprehensive way to search various government job websites if you want to find openings for government jobs.
*Monster.com
Monster, located at www.monster.com, is a terrific resource when searching for any kind of job. You can also use it to find government listings as well. If you type in "government jobs" it will even provide a list of government job fairs which are being given in the near future.
Another valuable way to search for a government job is to consult with your local municipality, county, or state websites to look for job listings. While not easily found by a general Google (or other search engine) search, if you pinpoint a specific entity you are interested in working for, you can pull up the most current positions available; most of the time you can even download the qualifications and application too.
When using any of these websites to aid you in your quest to find a government job, keep in mind for the majority of these sites you will need to register and create an account in order to maximize the full benefits of using these search engines.
The web is an incredible resource for locating a government job and by becoming familiar with the various sites out there you'll be well on your way to finding your dream job in a government position.
