24 used to be my favourite show. I could watch it for hours on end. My buddies and I would have 24 marathons where we would see how many episodes/season we could watch in a row. One weekend we simply stayed up for close to 50 hours and managed to get in 2 and a half seasons before our eyes closed for a long sleep. The reason that we all loved 24 so much was the fact that you could turn your mind off and watch some super awesome senseless and mindless violence for an hour every week. There were always twists and surprises. You never knew who was safe and who was going to die. With the last season, Day 6, I found myself horribly disappointed. 24 is no longer about the action; but the drama. We see our fearless leader Jack Bauer, who in 24-fans minds could kick Chuck Norris' ass easily, reduced to tears over the littlest of things. Sure he has been through hell and back; but Jack has no emotions - he is a machine - it's why we watch 24. To see Jack, the machine, crying like a little baby is a turn off. We go from having a hard on to being a limp dick - all because Jack kicks a bad guy in the face and then cries about it.
24 has definitely lost its drive, it's action, it's impetus. Also - another reason, other than the fact that the creator and head writer just recently walked out is because of the writer's strike; and then Kiefer Sutherland going to jail, leaving us loyal fans for 2 years without a season. In 2 years we can easily lose track of our loyalties and move onto another television show; enter Prison Break, or Heroes, or Lost, etc...
24, when you come back with Day 7, please come back swinging hard, or else it may just be the last season I tune into.
I am also being told that this article is too short and that I have to make it longer - so I have to add some filler. So here I will rant about the upcoming Day 7. Tony Almeida is alive? Seriously? Like what the hell. You wouldn't have thought that someone would have noticed that when they collected his body off the front yard, or when everyone went to his funeral. C'mon - it's just as bad as Prison Break with Sarah Tancredi being alive. It seems to be the Deus Ex Machina complex - whenever we run out of new ideas God will save us; we'll just bring everyone back to life. Next we're gonna find out that what: Ryan wasn't really shot in the head by Jack Bauer? It was a stand in? (That's sarcasm - I really hope that doesn't happen because that would just be too stupid.) Anyways, I think it's time to shut down 24 for good. Leave us with good memories - not with horribly creative ways to ruin the show.
