How to make money in Guild Wars

to salvage. (Remember that you need an Expert Salvage Kit or better to salvage runes, insiginia and weapon mods.)

The Rare Materials Trader deals in rare materials that either drop, or are crafted. If you pick up a ruby, or monstrous fang, it's worth checking what he will pay. However, the greatest value lies in selling him crafted materials. If you have a surplus of tanned hide squares, which sell to the merchant for 3 g each, you can take them to a crafter and turn 5 squares into leather, at a cost of 50 g. If the crafter will buy leather squares at anything higher than 65 g , you're turning a profit. Check the rare material trader for what is selling at a good price, and then check what the crafters need to make it and how much they charge.

Of course, you can sell any or all of the popular trader items in the trade channel, at price lower than what the trader charges, but higher than what he is paying.

Factions and Nightfall both offer financial rewards for completing quests. Just do the quests and money will roll in. Nightfall has the edge for making cash, though. Its quest rewards are more varied and can be more generous, but it also has a number of buried and hidden treasures scattered throughout the game. You do not need a key to open the chests, you just have to find them. (http://wiki.guildwars.com will help the impatient.) The ones in Istan yield about 500 g and an item, while those in the Realm of Torment give about 3,000 g and an item. Most often the items are weapons, usually purple in Istan and gold elsewhere on first access; however, the chests do also yield gemstones. The treasures are linked to character, not account, and they renew approximately once a month. However, they diminish in value every time you re-use them. Save your looting for the end of game treasures; drawing from a beginner stash too often per character will reduce the value of the endgame treasures.

In EoTN, the skill Light of Deldrimor will reveal hidden treasures in dungeons. These are usually very small amounts of gold, but gemstones do occasionlly drop. The dungeons all end with a treasure chest which can yield an item of significant value. You can redo the dungeons as often as you like, and always get the chest. Cathedral of Flames is particularly popular, as the drops throughout the dungeon are good.

Finally, in Prophecies and EoTN you can make good money by running. This involves learning a route and a build that lets you run past monsters without being killed. Every time you go through a portal, you pull the rest of the party through with you, resurrecting any dead ones in the process. Players pay runners to get them to new outposts faster than they could get there by following the game path. Popular routes include Lion's Arch to Temple of Ages or Sanctum Cay, (the route to Sanctum Cay goes through Temple of Ages), Temple of Ages to Zinn's Lair, Beacon's Perch to Droknar's Forge, Lion's Arch back to Ascalon City, and Amnoon Oasis or Augury Rock to all the desert outposts. Many people also call for runners from Eye of the North to Gunnar's Hold, as well as for runners through Dungeons such as Cathedral of Flames, or through missions such as Elona Reach, or A Time for Heroes. Needs change as game changes are made, so stop by in various outposts and see who is calling for runners where.

Of course, by the time you're good enough to run for money, you're good enough to start learning solo farming in the Fissure of Woe or the Underworld. If you've been following the basic economic principles of the game along the way, you'll certainly be well equipped financially to get the armor, runes, weapons and entrance fees to start doing so!
