Poetry: Sea & land

by Richard Saare

Created on: September 16, 2008   Last Updated: September 19, 2008

The call of the sea,

I have; on many occasions stared at the open sea
And marveled at the mechanics of it all
I feel the moon may be the culprit in this saga of the sea
Yes, it must be the moon that forever drives this great surge engine

The waves begin as if from nowhere
The rhythmic motions of an endless sea
The sounds of life, the call of nature
The sea is a living thing; a breathing thing

With a cadence as old as time itself
On every shore of every land
The waves are forever drawn to the shore
To meet their final and irrevocable end

Some mystical temptation lures them to the beach
The endless waves fall victim to this fatal attraction
Helpless to avoid their own inevitable demise
They thunder in the throws of death

From the ends of the Earth there comes more
From every direction, in every direction without fail
Wave after wave crash upon the sands of eternity
Timeless, Boundless, Endless is the power of the sea
