On My Own
I tried to erase you from my mind,
But you, I always find.
You're not so easy to leave behind,
These memories, impossible to rewind.
In this world so dark,
You set off a spark.
You're always good,
Even when no one else would.
You gave my life meaning,
Never once were you demeaning.
I owe my life to you,
You changed my point of view.
You taught me how to believe,
Into my life, love and hope you did weave.
Letting you go,
Fills me with inexpressible woe.
A better person I became,
Never to be the same.
You reached this place so deep within me,
I didn't think anyone could see.
I would bet,
Even if we never met,
You, I would have missed.
For you, I would have wished.
You taught me how to laugh with all my soul,
You made my life so full.
You touched my heart,
From the very start.
I never felt complete,
Until our fateful meet.
But I have more growing to do,
And regretfully I must do it away from you.
I must find out who I really am,
This flood of doubts I need to dam.
I need to take a closer look,
Than just the cover of the book.
On my own I need to stand,
I hope one day you'll understand.
I need to figure out,
Just what this life is all about.
When the pressure mounts,
And all that's left is doubt,
I need to know I'll be okay,
To face another day.
I need to know I can survive,
And even be revived.
Without you,
I need to see this through.
But don't forget,
To you I'll always be in debt.
I hope for me, you can wait.
I promise I won't be too late.
I just need to see,
What, on my own, I can be.
Only then can we,
Ever start to be,
What you and I both need,
Growing together, as you lead.

Poetry: If you were gone
You Without Me
Oh what can it be
When I see you without me
The uneasiness of it all
And wrestling with my heart
Of being alone
We only met two years ago
But you are a constant in my life
The one thing that keeps me steady
When everything else is full
If you were gone
My life would be so much simpler
No calling to check on you
No going to pick up your mail
No going to pick
While I am here with you,
Close to my heart you will stay.
Never did I imagine
A love so fine.
With you,
My heart sings.
Because
by Helen Stuart
If you were gone
I'd have no reason to listen
For pick-up motors roaring
Into the driveway.
No smell of cigars
On your flannel
