Seeing is believing or so they say! And to trust in God can sometimes cause us to have that same attitude. Despite our best efforts, we always come back to the belief that its difficult to trust that which we cannot see. Before we can trust we tell ourselves that we have to believe. And in order to believe, we must see some sort of proof that God is real & does exist.
Human nature would have us trust in God only in those times when we need God the most. When things are going smoothly, God, for the most part is the last thing on our minds. We tend to forget that God controls all and is the answer to everything regardless of whether we have reached out to Him or not.
So why is it so hard for us to trust in God at all times and not just during our times of need? It goes without saying, we are programmed & better equipped to believe in something we can see. If we pray and God does not answer our prayers the way we wish or worst case scenario, doesn't answer our prayers at all, our faith waivers and our trust in God falters. We're human after all.
The basis for trusting in God is having a close relationship with Him. Sometimes when we pray and strive to trust in God, it feels like we are reaching out to an unknown in the great big sky of uncertainty. We're told to trust and believe and yet we find ourselves back at square one of wondering if there is a God and how trusting in something we can't see will give us the hope and reassurance we need at all times & not just when we need to.
Putting forth that much effort to give ourselves to something that is only known to some solely in times of trouble, seems almost as far reaching as God, Himself. But in order for us to have trust in God, it must first begin with us. The more we work to get to know God by praying, reading His word, and living the life the way God intends, the more our trust in Him will grow until we are less reliant on ourselves and totally dependent upon Him. We have to get to give. It is only through our diligence in this way are we able to open the lines of communication with God in order for Him to reveal Himself to us through answered prayers and other miracles that we can only experience by trusting and believing in Him.
Trusting in God is not easy. Even the most devout of Christians has their faith and belief in God tested from time to time. As humans we are not perfect and although we strive for perfection, we fall short more times than we care to admit. This is reason enough to want to trust God in all things no matter what.
