Reflections: The Universe

There is modest agreement about the Big Bang and the birth of the Universe and
current experiments at the Hadron Center in Europe may confirm some of the
theories afield. Still, it is difficult to conceive that a particle smaller
than a pin point opened (Banged !) and flowered out the entire contents of
the Universe in nanoseconds. Most can accept the "when" of this event from

known physical laws but the rest borders on the stuff of metaphysics and mythology.

After "when," we have to address the stock journalists' questions of "how," "why,"
"who," "where." The Hadron particle accelerator experiment is most concerned with discerning
the "how".....just how the exploding "point" spewed the entire Universe and just "what" indeed
it spewed. Scientist who follow this creation event feel there is "something" out there
we have yet to identify....a something that makes up the mass of the Universe. This
"something" may be the "who," the "God Particle" as it has been termed. That leaves only
"where," and we have to assume the Bang occurred at the edge of nothing.

When the Hadron hurls some indescribably tiny matter around its 17-mile course, speed
of light , the ensuing explosion from opposing-direction particles will mimic
the Big Bang. For less than a second, the particles will dump their contents, and the
electronic sensors will record for study that which falls out. In that array, some speculate,
among other things, the God Particle will be seen. If so, this will help explain the
mysterious composition of the Universe.

Some have suggested the Hadron's Big Bang will be so like the original event, a black hole
will ensue, and the earth will be swallowed. That is not what happened at the instant
of creation called the Big Bang....a black hole did not swallow up anything. Rather, the
entire contents of the Universe dispersed instantaneously, and those particles continue pressing outward to this era. All the matter that ever would be existed at the instant of creation. Black holes developed from unrelated phenomena, typically the inward collapse
of burned-out stars. No relation here to the planned experiments at the Hadron Center.

It is possible the Hadron experiments will prove that matter can be subdivided to
infinity, with the complete Universe in every subsection. How else can we explain the contents of the Universe in a particle smaller than a pin point ? The only thing that can be concluded at this point....there are some exciting days ahead !
