Poetry: Hunger

by Christine Hutson

Hunger

Tomatoes spoiling on the vine
My neighbors turn down
What I can spare
Wonder why I'm willing to share
The garden crop
That just won't stop

I wish life was simpler,
That trust and giving
Helped the living
I hunger for more than food
Starvation is a symptom
Of how far we've come
In loss of sharing
And human caring
Take a look at what's the same
Call God by any name
But see God in each other.
