Getting OK with being single

Newly single? Not sure what to do now you're not running around after your other half? Too many weeknights spent watching girly movies and talking to your mum on the phone? Well let me tell you gals those days are gone!
Being single is becoming increasingly more fashionable. Gone are the days when you needed a man to define who you are or how you spent your time! And thank God for that! What a wonderful century we live in! But seriously now, many women find that life, newly single or not, gets boring and lonely and there are only so many cooking classes you can take before you turn into a slightly more stylish version of your nanna. So here are a few things us gals can do to enjoy ourselves and get on with it!

One: Find a good novel. I DON'T mean Mills & Boon, although they had their place when you were in high school, they are by no means literary works of art and do set rather unrealistic expectations of how men react in certain situations! Jane Austin is a favourite author of mine and some of her more well known books 'Sense and Sensibility', 'Emma' and 'Pride and Prejudice' are quite brilliant. She writes expressively and clearly with each story having a most delicious and satisfying end. Jane may not be your thing, but whatever novel you choose, I recommend reading a review on the book first to make sure you don't end up wading your way through some mindless drivel with no plot and even less imagination.
Two: Get a pet! This should perhaps be number one, as they brighten up even the dullest day, but not everyone can keep a pet and I didn't want to get you too excited. Small dogs, if properly trained, make the most loving and dependable house mates. Nothing beats coming home to something that is so glad to see you it almost passes out with glee! If you don't furry things or aren't allowed them, Siamese fighting fish are far more interesting than your every day gold fish and they only require a small habitat. If your really adventurous, snakes or spiders are surprisingly good pets but you'll need a permit for a snake.
Three: Take up a hobby. This could be anything from painting to cross stitch, or even writing and is only limited by your budget. Some hobbies are vastly more expensive than others, especially if you want to collect things or take classes in a language or craft. A cheaper way to do this is to buy the equipment you need from a wholesaler or on line and rent out a book on it from your local library. That way you can learn at your own
