A few years back, a good friend of mine suggested I use writing.com. She swore it was one of the best sites for writing she'd ever come across. After many emails asking me why I had not joined I went to the site.
The first thing I noticed was the cluttered look of the site and how I was already confused and I hadn't even clicked on anything yet.. There were so many things to look at I wasn't sure where I should look first.
I finally located the button to click to join. The process for joining seemed long to me and while I'm old fashioned and not of the instant gratification generation, it was still too slow for me. I joined and looked around but either I had ADD or there are just too many blinking flashing areas to look at. I couldn't figure out how to post my work. I stopped looking and ended up with a bit of a headache.
A few days later, I tried to log onto the site and could not figure out exactly how to do it. I hunted through all the blinding areas and gave up. A few months later, I received an email telling me they were deleting my account due to inactivity. This was fine with me since I couldn't figure out how to use the site. True, I'm not a technical genius but I've used many writing sites before I was directed to writing.com.
Writing.com was not a good fit for me. I have found many other sites that are much more user friendly and easier to navigate. A few to check out are www.fanstory.com, And www.writing forum.org. Both are easier on the eyes and easier to use.
