Poetry: Let me be strong

I'm Not Broken

Why does everyone treat me like I'm broken?
A concern in them unknowingly awoken.

"Fragile," they say,
As if that's a better way.

I'm stronger than they seem to think.
I will not so easily sink.

They say I'm at my brink.
To disaster, I'm told I wink.

Well that's not so,
I've yet to sink so low.

I just refuse to be fake,
Nothing phony in my wake.

A plastered smile,
Lives in denial.

I could feed you lines,
And convince you I'm fine.

But what good would that really do?
But temporarily console you.

Being fake,
Maybe easier to take.

But in the end,
Only hastens to descend.

By being real,
And telling you how I feel,

I can begin to deal,
And my fate, unseal.

If you really care,
My heart, allow be to bear.

Don't be scared,
It will release me from this snare.

The noose,
Will begin to let loose.

My chains will release,
And the darkness will cease.
