Poetry: Sad goodbyes

The SwallowA Spanish Song

I am like an Adobe wall my precious one
Strong, yet crumbling with time
The wind is like an empty song
Taking a tiny piece of me
Each time it blows

And you, you are like the Swallow
Free to glide on the wind
Free to fly where I cannot
Why did you come here little bird?
Why did you land in my doorway,
And cause me to love you?

Why must you fly back to your land of golden sun?
And go where I cannot follow?
The wind is like an empty song
Caused by the beat of your tiny wings
As you soar above my walls
To return to your lands far away

And what if you should fall little Swallow?
What if you should collapse
In the midst of returning to me?
Shall I never hear your song again?

I am like an Adobe wall, dear one
Strong yet crumbling with time
Oh why did you land in my doorway
And cause me to love you?

You who are like the Swallow
You who would fly away
Again and again
Taking with you, your song
Leaving the emptiness of the wind
