Clearing up misconceptions about Wicca

While pagan religions are some of the fastest growing religions in the world at this time, there is still much need to clear up some of the questions, rumors and misconceptions about the different religions. Being that I am a Wiccan, I have decided to write about Wicca in particular for obvious reasons.
First off I feel the need to explain, the while Wicca is a Pagan tradition, not all Pagans are Wiccan. It is the same concept as the different Christian denominations(eg. Baptists or Christians. but not all Christians are Baptists) Also there are even Sub-Categories within the different Pagan traditions. However one of the most wonderful part of Wicca is that none of that matters! Some people believe that Wicca is not a legitimate religion because we do not have a strict doctrine. That fact of the matter is that part of the belief structure of Wicca is that each person is responsible for their own spirituality, and that is a big part of the reason for the diversity.

Wicca is not "satanism" or "devil worship". I live in a very small, and small minded community and on the rare occasion that I actually discuss my religious beliefs, the first thing people seem to think is that I worship the devil. I don't believe in the devil! In Wicca there is no devil. So obviously I don't worship what I don't believe exists.
Wiccan rituals aren't orgies. While some Wiccans do practice in the nude, they do this to be in their natural state because they feel that it brings them closer to the earth's energies. That is not to say that Wiccans never practice ritual sex, some do. However most Wiccans would probably tell you that sex rituals are not for everyone, and on the occasions that people do choose to do so it is always advised and usually done only between a couple that is married( or in a very serious relationship) and done in private.
These are only a few of the many misconceptions surrounding Wicca, but I do hope that through knowledge Wicca can be seen for what it is, instead of criticized for what people think it is.
