TV commentary: Network vampires

As a lover of vampire mythology ranging from the classic Dracula to the high-octane harrowing blood and gore of Blade, I do find a...well, bloodlust...for the shows full of fangs and fiery eyes, maybe some bats in the skies, a few stakes, some garlic, some hellfire. Great stuff. I was, however, NOT that much a fan of "Buffy" for one particular reason: she wasn't a vampire.

And that, my friends, is my main issue-and also my main problem.

Let me explain-although Sarah Michelle Gellar was easy on the eyes, I didn't find it interesting at all simply because when you think of what a vampire thinks-immortality, the feeling of a waking death, a hunger inside, a longing, a rage-I mean, come on, people, that's pretty interesting. Look at Louie from Anne Rice's INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE or even Blade from, well..."Blade". Yeah. And Blade is actually a special, inventive case, too. He's HALF-vampire. Interesting.

My main problem, however, was the cancellation of "Moonlight". Did CBS go psycho? Makes me think CBS stands for Collective B...S.... I'd really say it, but I can't. I just can't. It would make me laugh. Does anyone even remember the older, more dramatic show "Forever Knight"? Similarities, anyone? Yes, "Moonlight" wasn't very gory (which I love), and I hardly saw any of the cool fight scenes you would find on "Blade" (also love). But still, when it comes to a vampire character, what that character deals with in his eternal life, I'm instantly hooked no matter what. It's all about the character, people.

Let's examine here: on "Moonlight", we have the sombre sweetheart of a man that just happens to have a taste for blood. And sleeps in an icebox. Everyone has their quirks. But he also has that nobility, making him that much more of a 'hero'. Very much like Angel from, well..."Angel". And while "Angel" was, of course, very campy, kind of funny and a little convoluted with its storylines, again, I always had that infectious admiration for the dark character in black, like the end scene of the intro to "Angel" as he walks away in the dark alley with his black coat. Same went for that good-natured Mick St. John of "Moonlight" who just so happened to wear a, you guessed it, black coat. Big surprise. But how can you not love that character? You want to root for him. His nature breathes evil, but he fights for the nobility in humanity. I hear the epic music playing right now.

Don't get me wrong about this, though-I'm not saying I'm strictly linear on what I thirst for in a
