Seeing the world through new eyes is the dream of many. Quite often vision problems hinder us from living our day to day lives. When the procedure of Lasik first came out we had new hope for life without corrective lenses. However the procedure was disappointing to many. They discovered a new world of problems with their vision and many people lost that feeling once again.
With problems like; halos, sensitivity to light, pain, and many other side effects of the procedure. Many surgeon faced issues with evaluation of the patients to determine who was a good candidate for lasik surgery. People with Keratoconus struggled because Lasik surgery caused more damage to their vision that it helped. Many surgeons now use Corneal Topography to evaluate a patient before they perform lasik surgery.
The Corneal Topography maps the eye and shows them any changes or irregularities in the eye before the procedure. This along with a physical evaluation and history of the patient is done to insure there is minimal risk to the patient. There are many other options for those with Keratoconus and advancements in the treatment of keratoconus are made continually.
New developments in Lasik surgery lead to a new procedure called Custom Guided Wave front Lasik. This procedure allows the surgeon to map out each eye and using a specialized computer allowing them to guide the laser to the areas that need to be corrected. The computer gives them a personalized map of each patient. Showing their exact specifications. The procedure is much simpler and more accurate than past procedures. It can also be used to correct other problems with past Lasik procedures. The surgeons perform Anti-Halo Lasik which corrects halos, and glare from former Lasik procedures.
These new procedures can be performed in the office and according to many patients it is showing great results. Correcting their sight to almost perfect depending on the strength of the patients prescription. The "WOW" affect is a great sign of the advancements of Lasik procedures. The "WOW" affect was named because when the procedure is done the patient can see a difference right away.
The advancements in Lasik are bringing new life to patients everywhere. The Lasik procedure only takes less than 1 hour to complete with results in vision improvement almost immediatly. Lasik gives patients a chance to live life free from corrective lenses, and contacts. Though it is a relatively new procedure it is showing great promoise.
