Contraceptive injections: The pros and cons

Contraceptive Injections / Depo Provera like all other hormone-based contraceptive methods have their advantages and disadvantages - and the side effects depend very much on the individual.
However, having been on the depot jabs for over four years now, I do have to say that the advantages in comparison to other methods of contraception outweigh the side effects by far!

Consider this: no more periods, and no more cycle related pains such as migraine, back ache or stomach cramps, no mood swings etc, a 100% reliable contraceptive method without having to remember to take a pill every day (well, you have to remember the doctors appointment and that should be within a certain week every three months) and basically no side effects. (for me at least, and apparently, the majority of women who are on it).
Usual word of caution: as with all hormonal treatments, it can cause / quicken the way to osteoporosis, and some weight gain is likely in the long run (ca 2kg per year, so trips to the gym and some effort at healthy eating necessary if you want to maintain a good shape).
Naturally, it'll take a while till your body / fertility resets after stopping the regular jabs, but as long as you're aware of this, I can honestly say from my opinion, this is a really a pretty fool-proof and easy method of contraception that also takes a lot of the hassle and pain out of your life. (I was one of those women who were literally out of action for at least three days each month due to heavy period pain and migraines - so this is a particularly valid point for me).
In fact, the only other, maybe even easier method is to get the implant which functions in a similar way but has the advantage that it lasts 3 years and can be taken out at any time - as long as you're not the squeamish type...
Certainly, after my disastrous experience with several different pills a welcome alternative - thought I'd share it and maybe encourage some of you who might be a bit cautious to give it a try - it really completely changed my life!

(Apologies to those of you for whom this is irrelevant and thanks for reading on!)
