Poetry: The sun

The Magnificent Sun

I saw a light o'er yonder hill
ebbing night away
Growing brighter, brighter still
bringing forth the day

All through the day he lends his light
to guide us as we toil
Waking up the sleepy flow'rs
and warming up the soil

And, then, when day is finally done
he nestles in the West
And thinking back o'er all his work
he settles down to rest

Yet one last deed was left undone
So gathering all his might
He draws together all that's left
of his warm, dazzling light

In showy spectacle supreme
and sparkling rays of light
Spraying clouds with pink and red
He summons forth the night

At last, with all his powers spent
He slowly sinks from view
To gather light from all the stars
to start the day anew
