BMW has launched the fifth generation 2009 BMW 7 Series sedans. Two models, the 750i and the 750Li, both V-8 powered, offers power and luxury.

BMW shows off the 7-series in the United States in November at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. The m.s.p is $124,100 for spring 2009.

Engineers at BMW have outdone themselves with the 7-series. Impressive technological features showcase dramatic improvements to the sedans. Night vision with pedestrian detection increases pedestrian safety.

Advanced safety features like side-view cameras, rear-wheel steering, and lane-change warning provides better protection for motorists regarding blind spots and safe navigation.

Other upgrades were designed after BMW fielded numerous negative feedback from owners of previous BMW 7 Series. Designers removed the electronic joystick from the center console and strategically placed it on the column in order to provide ergonomically correct driving positions. However, the ergonomic joystick made driving feel awkward and unnatural. This prompted the automaker to remount the lever back on the console.

The new BMW appears to be beautifully styled externally with simple lines. The exterior tells a remarkably different story from previous generations which were flashy, and less visually appealing. It seemed engineers had tried a bit too hard to impress.

Internally, the iDrive system, with new modifications and smart interface, controls driving operations with the touch of a few buttons. Commonly used functions are logically arranged and easily accessible on the dashboard's LCD panel.

The menu display includes a radio/CD player, windscreen wipers, indicators, air conditioning and heating, and headlight controls. Buttons are larger and easier to read than those in the current series. Critics of the controversial iDrive, find the system commendable.

Four-wheel steering will be an option with the BMW 7 Series, but the all-wheel drive option is not available. Rear-seat passengers no longer have to share the entertainment system that's present in older models. Screens are now mounted on the back of the front seats.

The overall style and performance of the 7-series tops its predecessors. Even the owner's manual is tailored (rather than being generic) to the specifications of the 750i and the 750Li.
