Ten Ways to Look at Love
I
'Twas the hate in the snake bit the dove;
The love bid haste when it ate.
II
You can be my sky so clear
While I be your ocean blue,
My presence faithful ever nears,
My love, like flowers, ever blooms:
Oh, love me, please, I beg of you.
III
Teach me your ways, stunted tree
And I will grow beyond you
Alluring vertigo, call; I answer;
I will defy them, and
Their possessive pleas of the womb.
IV
Cry for me, you chasing lover
For I love loving you not
Though you dangle; oh, puppet, dance.
V
Move, mountain, hide no man
He must return; he will, he can
Let dawn break the earth in two,
The burning flame reveal his shoe.
VI
Peace in a world with no time for it,
Found only in a game where love means nothing
Except on my side of the court.
VII
If you own ears, replace one of mine
If you own eyes, replace one of mine
If you own lips, replace one of mine
Crackled and dry, youthful and spry,
An odd couplet be the truest of lies.
VIII
To die, to die, so sink, so cry
As you slipped past my blinded eye
He came; he won you, breath asigh;
Oh, with'ring rose, my heart doth die.
IX
I love you
I love you not
I love you
I love you not
I love you;
A flower my matchmaker be,
Second only to my heart.
X
The inside jokes spill from the smiles,
Laughter treasured for a while
Until the season's o'er.
