America's energy crises is here to stay until all the alternatives kick in. Some of those alternatives are solar power, nuclear, geothermal, ocean wave and tidal generation, and wind power for starters. Take a look at the T. Boone Pickens plan to help solve the energy crises and hope that people jump on board. This billionaire is willing to put his money where his mouth is and he has invested billions of his OWN money to help. He is taking an enormous risk, but that is how he became a billionaire in the first place. He is not afraid to gamble on something he believes in, and he believes wholeheartedly in his energy plan. What is it?
His plan is to create a huge wind farm throughout many states primarily in the midwest where wind energy is the greatest. Another part of his plan is to switchover the transportation needs of this country from oil to natural gas. America owns trillions of acres of natural gas, enough to last well into the next century. If we can substitute natural gas for oil for our transportation needs, we can kick our dependence on foreign oil. Another benefit is that natural gas burns cleaner than gasoline which is terrific. I love his plan, and think this is the first concrete plan I have heard that America can do now, not some hazy time in the great beyond. Let's get behind him on this.
Back in the seventies America went through the pains of it's first energy crises, and we had a lot of opportunities to think about using other forms of energy and to implement them. What did we do? Nothing, of course. Oil began to get cheaper and nothing could compete with the price of oil being so low. So we waited. The government waited and waited until we are in the predicament we are in now. Brazil went through the crisis as well, but they didn't wait. They searched for a way out and they found it. They grow sugar cane down there, and that is what they are powering their country with now. They went through a lot of pain to get where they are today, but they are energy independent, unlike us. We were lazy and stupid, they were productive and smart. Now we pay the grievous price.
The energy crisis is real, and oil is not going to drop in price like it did thirty-five years ago. We must do something real this time, or we will be fighting a lot more wars in the future. This will take a many-sided effort, using solar, wind, geothermal, etc. to wean us off of foreign oil. But we can do it, because we are Americans. We need to unite, and we need strong leadership to get us in the right direction. Let's force our politicians to act now, not later! If we don't get off our butts now, there will be a hell of a price to pay.
