When Helium recently had their links contest among members to see who could put the most valid links onto the Internet with set parameters, little did they know what a monster they were creating in me and my use of Helium. I came third in the contest, and was relatively new at the concept of placing links on the Internet, though readers may wonder why, with so little experience, I am writing this article. Since the contest, the difference in my earnings was substantial enough for me to appreciate that what I did works, and by sharing it with readers, I was hoping to encourage others to follow suit and to link their articles to outside sites.
This article is split into sections because there is so much area to cover. Many people already link articles to their own blogs, though the linking to other sites which are used by members of the public to seek information really do bring traffic into Helium and increase what you earn. I started my search by using titles I had posted to as a clue to what to look for and was surprised about the lack of information on certain subjects. That one first link I placed led people instantly to information and in turn, to Helium, and that's what links are all about.
*Academic websites
*Writing websites.
*Private websites which cover your areas of interest.
*News websites and current affairs websites.
Academic websites.
What would you or Helium gain from linking to Academic websites. Well, perhaps it is a naive thought of mine, though one thing that academic sites will attract is students. Students need study, and also need extra money. Their curiosity will bring them onto Helium and that one little "carrot" provided by your link not only achieves a read, but also the possibility of a member.
Look for conversations which ask for feedback from members of the public. Look for things which have a natural linking possibility. Perhaps even link to something like a student contest if appropriate, but always make sure your link is serious and in keeping with whatever site you approach. They are much like any other sites and don't want to be spammed, but are open to links which open up understanding or opportunity.
Writing websites.
Jumping onto a writers website and pasting links everywhere does no good. Here, get to know people. It's polite and it also gives you a chance, as a member, to see the quality of other people's work and to form groups or even hold in-house contests, where you can invite members to join, and show examples of your work
