Should cell phone use be banned when driving? Yes

I 100% believe that cell phones should be banned whilst driving.

Statistics do not lie; accidents occur more often in incidences involving the use of cells phones. And what most people do not realise is that every one of those statistics had a life, a family and people who cared about them.

Cell phones have become an integral part of our daily lives and many people have become addicted to their technological wonders. You can use them to text, phone, and email, take photos, take videos, and listen to music, play games and much more. But what they fail to accept is that their addictions cost innocent people's lives.

Some may argue that it is acceptable to use a cell phone in the case of an emergency when the simple thing to do would be to just pull over and not risk an accident. By using a cell phone in the case of an emergency effectively you are creating one.

So what about changing the music in your car is that dangerous? Well potentially it is, but there is a big difference between the three second distraction of changing a CD and the distraction of a phone call that lasts several minutes. Statistically in is improbable that an accident would occur in the three second period of changing a CD, but I advise that you do not change a CD while driving and simply pull over as there is less risk of an accident.

Too many times have I seen an average business man or women speaking on their cell phones, which I believe is not just selfish but also dangerous, stupid and unnecessary. I have also heard many people say things like: It won't happen to me' or I will be extra careful', when actually the shocking reality is that our minds were not made to focus on driving and talking on a phone, but to focus on single actions, and not multitasking.

Although speaking on cell phones while driving is still a big problem I believe the main problem is that of people using their cell phones to text while driving. Unless you are skilled at texting, by sending an SMS message you have to look down at your phone, and by doing this obviously you are not concentrating on your driving and this leads to more accidents.

So clearly I believe that cells phones should be banned when driving. Also I think that the use of hands free sets should not be used as that takes up a certain degree of concentration. There are too many accidents on the road as it is, let alone the amount there will be with people using their cell phones while driving on the road. Please kill the conversation, before the conversation kills you. And remember that by not ending that phone call you could be ending yours or someone else's life.
