Poetry: Growing

by Crystal Cook

Created on: September 12, 2008

I forgot to freeze time
like I said I would
now tomorrow is here.

I'm not ready
to leave yesterday behind.

I thought it would last
a little longer than it did.

When did your little hands
grow bigger than mine?

Wasn't it just yesterday
I cradled
you in my arms
while you slumbered?

I used to hold
your tiny hand
now mine seems small
when covered by yours.

Your hands
are big and strong
like I dreamed
they would be.

I don't remember
waking up.

Wasn't it only yesterday
you looked up at me?

Now here I stand
looking up at you.

I forgot to freeze time
like I said I would
now tomorrow is here.

I'm not ready
to leave yesterday behind.

I thought it would last
a little longer than it did.
