Recipes: Halloween-themed food

Fall has arrived and along with it, Halloween. The parties centered around this holiday are some of the funnest, for adults as well as children. The dressing up, the decorations, the games and, perhaps best of all, the food. Here are a couple of recipes to get your Halloween party off to a bang!

BAKED CARAMEL CORN

*Ingredients
1 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
6 quarts popped corn (keep hot)

*Instructions
In a saucepan melt butter. Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bring to a boil and stir constantly for 5 minutes. Stir in baking soda and vanilla. Pour over popcorn and mix well. Pour into large pans and bake for 1 hour at 250 degrees F. stirring every 5 minutes. Serve and enjoy! Your little monsters will love it!

CANDIED APPLES

*Ingredients
6-8 McIntosh apples
1/2 lb. candy cinnamon hearts
1/2 c. sugar
3 dashes cinnamon
1 stick cinnamon
1/2 c. water

*Instructions
Cut apples in half, core and pare. Soak in ice water 30 minutes. Heat on stove: candy, sugar, cinnamon, water and cinnamon stick. Boil 10 minutes. Pour over apples in a casserole dish and bake 45 minutes at 325 degrees. Happy Halloween!
