During your college years there are many approaches you can take to studying. While there is no one fits all formula for studying, there are many techniques you can try to use; one of the primary keys to successful study is to find and develop a technique which works for you. What works for one student may not work for another.
Along the journey through college it is important to develop good study habits rather than bad ones. You are far better off if you can start your academic career off on the right foot by establishing good study habits right from the get-go.This can alleviate any potential problems that emerge from having poor study techniques which are distracting.
Once you get into a pattern of poor study habits, they can be frustrating to try and shake off. The bad habits aren't impossible to stop, but they are hard to break once they've ingratiated themselves into your work habits. Change is hard, and it's not much different with studying because routines can be difficult to break once they're established.
If you aren't careful, this can snowball and have an avalanche effect as your courses progress since classes typically build on a foundation introduced in the beginning of the semester. Strong study habits, on the other hand, will promote a healthy retention of details throughout the course. As a result, assignments and tests will become more natural throughout your semesters.
The best way to absorb your lessons is to discover the positive techniques you can use to study and choose which ones work best for you. Here are some techniques which work for many students:
*Peace and Quiet
If you choose an environment which is quiet and provides no distractions, this may be a good way to start off your study session. In today's high-tech geared society there are so many interruptions and its often reached the point its hard to recognize the sounds going on around you.
Even though you may not be always conscious of the cell phones ringing, radios blaring, busses zooming by, the noises are all there and do sometimes impact ability to concentrate.
*Ditch the Gadgets
If you turn off your iPod, TV, computer, cell phone and any other digital or electronic device which may distract you, you'll be taking a big step towards effective study.
Students who tend to listen to music, watch TV, instant message or text message while studying don't really give themselves the opportunity to concentrate and focus on their assignments.
*Time Management
