Hawaiian Explorer2: The Lost Islands starts off with an explanation of the premise of the game that is set up in the introduction and supplies the background for your adventure. This introduction however, seems to be a bit long and drawn out. The set up alludes to the beginnings of a real adventure with the promise of excitement.
Hawaiian Explorer 2 is a "Where's Waldo" type of treasure hunting game. The graphics are modest. At first appearance is a bit overwhelming and left me wondering what this had to do with adventure. Maybe the adventure is finding the fun in this game. The drawback is that some of the items did not look like what was represented in the list. Of course this made it difficult to complete some of the tasks required, which quickly made this game become more annoying than fun or challenging. Slip-ups like this tend to make the game just plain frustrating.
I have to acknowledge the creativity in hiding items throughout the playing screen. I found items hidden in and on things I would have never imagined. Unfortunately I became bored with the premise of the game within 5 minutes. However, if this is your cup of mind bending, eyeball popping fun, you just might enjoy this game.
The sound in the game is good; the spoken intro at the beginning, although quite long, is a nice touch and helps to personalize your experience. The background music is light and airy with a simple little whirling chime when you find an item and clunk when you don't. The sound may be the best part of the game, but it doesn't lend to the game play.
If you enjoy level after level of searching through a mess of objects for items, you are sure to enjoy this game; personally, I tend to like, adventure in my adventure games! I didn't find this game to be challenging, just annoying. This game can stay in cyberspace for my money.
