Often people ask how to send photographs through the Internet, and this article addresses that problem, explaining how to use your photographic software to change the format of a photograph to make it possible to share that photo with friends and family in the most efficient manner. The digital age has seen changes and new users of digital photography are learning the different uses that these photographs have as opposed to traditional paper photographs.

Speed.
The speed at which you send an email with a photograph in it is dictated by the size of the file. What people often find is that sending normal sized photos direct from their cameras to a computer slows down the whole process. This is because the format of the file is optimal for viewing, though not optimal for sending. By downsizing the photograph, this can be sent easily.
How to make a photo into a smaller format.
To make a photograph smaller, the kind of file you need to create is called JPEG, which means a compressed format suitable for sending to friends, or for uploading onto an Internet site. To make your photographs conform to this standard, open up the photograph in question, and whatever kind of software you use, press on the photograph itself and press "Save As". You will get a menu which allows you to save the photograph in JPEG format. Be careful that you can locate the photograph for sending with email, by choosing a separate file and perhaps calling that file "for email", and making this part of your document folders, for ease of use.
How to attach the photo.
Different emails will have different options, though all allow you to attach items to the email. Here, press the attach file button on sites like yahoo mail or Hotmail, or in Outlook Express press the button at the top which allows you to attach files. What happens then is that you get a field where you can search your computer for the appropriate file and attach it. On on-line email sites, this takes a few moment to upload though in JPEG format is very easy and quick.
How to use the photo as a background.
In Outlook express you have a very nifty tool which you can use to make a background more interesting. Here press the word "format" at the top of the Outlook Express and then "Backgrounds" which will allow you to search you computer for the appropriate background photo. This is a great way to share with people who are less computer savvy and a little frightened of opening attachments, although the message that you type will be in the same field as the photograph itself.
Sending photographs by email is great fun. While many software manufacturers have built in ability to send photographs direct by email, these instructions are for all email programs and can be used when all else fails, meaning that wherever in the world you are, and however many miles keep you apart from loved ones, you really can keep in regular touch and send photographs easily from the comfort of your own home. Try it, it certainly does work and is quicker than hit and miss attempts without resizing the image.
