Web forums are websites or web pages designed for open discussion on different subjects.

Web forums are normally part of the features that come with already bought web domains and hosting packages, so website owners may not pay anything extra to get a web forum. The owner of the website is expected to create a link on his website to the already built forum. However, one can get web forums from other third-party websites or by simply developing one.

Web forums allow people share unique knowledge about different subjects. In web forums, people can comment about happenings in the world, tell about their testimonies and experience derived from using a particular product, etc.

While web forums on the Internet are normally identified with the presence of different subject threads and uniform design pattern, a news-reporting website or article/content website that allows comment from users can be regarded as a forum or mini-forum.

Web forums have helped solve many problems in online. With web forums, one can get to know about a product, if it is worth the dollars or not. Internet users from different parts of the world who have had an experience with the product would give their testimonies, which open for assessment by the person needing the information.

Web forum is the "conversation network" of the Internet. It is actually not different from the standard chat rooms, except the time difference in display of new posts or new information.

For websites that sell products or offer any other kind of services, web forums can act as a community where customers can write about the services of the website and ways of improvement. New customers can learn more about the website through their web forum.

Web forums do require quality time to maintain. Like every other network opened for free discussion to people of different beliefs in different parts of the world, it is bound to be misused in terms of postings carrying profanity.

Most forums ban the use of profane words, but people still use such words. The forum administrators therefore need to do constant "cleaning" of the forum by deleting posts containing profanity.

Some sites allow any kind of language, good or bad. YouTube.com, for example, has no practical ban for the use of swear words in comments for their videos. This is one of the reasons people have accepted the Internet as the electronic version of the real world, where people are allowed to speak as they want to speak.
