Day trips to enjoy the fall foliage

Take a Break and Enjoy the Beauty of Fall

Fall is the perfect time to plan an outing to enjoy a colorful array of Autumn foliage. The air is crisp and clean. Moreover, the weather is perfect to enjoy outings with the family.

Hiking:

Fall is a wonderful time to take the family out for a nature hike. Young children will enjoy gathering a collection of brightly colored leaves along the way. Continue with the fun at home by creating a collage with the leaves.

To find a good local hike for your family, contact the conservation department near you. They will be able to direct you to the best day hikes in your area. They may be able to give you maps of local hikes in the area as well as safety tips.

A Picnic:

You can have a picnic almost anywhere. The local park is probably the most popular place to have a picnic however, there are many other places to picnic. If you know someone who owns land near a stream or creak, you could get permission and have a nice cozy picnic with your family in a secluded area.

When limited on time, families can also enjoy a nice fall picnic in their own back yard. Where you go, is not important, what is important are the memories you and your family will create and remember forever.

Trail Ride:

Whether your choice is bicycle or horse a trail ride in the fall is a wonderful experience. Most areas at present have old railways that are no longer used. They have removed the tracks and turned these into trails. These are nice for mountain biking or horseback riding.

Safety:

While enjoying fall foliage it is important to be safe. Remember to watch for snakes. Some snakes like the copperhead can be hard to spot this time of year because their colors blend in with the foliage.

Always pack a first aid kit and know how to use the products in it. A snake bit kit, band-aids, antibiotic lotion, and cleansing wipes and a compass are necessary items to carry any time you are enjoying the great out doors.

Be sure to have plenty of clean water for everyone. It is important for everyone to stay hydrated. Fall weather can be unpredictable; therefore, it is good idea for each person to take a light waterproof jacket, in case it turns chilly or rainy while you are out.
