I will start by saying I haven't always been that interested in politics. When I became old enough to vote several years ago, I did so proudly, however, I never really knew or cared very much about my choice, as I've always believed that one vote doesn't make much of a difference. And when the fiasco of Bush winning the election 8 years ago came about, it was as if I were right all along. A technicality can put a man in office that many of the people did not want.

That is why when this election period came around; I had little to no interest in it at all. It was great to see that not only was a black man running for the highest executive office, but a woman as well, although I really didn't think that either candidates would make it as far as they did. I hadn't formed any sort of opinion in regards to any of the candidates running, because I felt that whoever was closely connected to the Bush administration would ultimately become the elected person.
I being a black woman did not feel compelled to vote for Obama simply because he was black, nor for Hillary simply because she was a woman. Understand I wasn't very interested in the election season at this point and was and still am convinced that almost all politicians say and promise us, "The American People" the same things in order to win our votes. I had not seen or witnessed in my lifetime a politician that spoke to us and truly for us. "Us" meaning the rich, the poor, the middle class, the educated, the poverty stricken, the black, the white, the brown, the uneducated, the handicap, the blue collar and the white collar, etc.
This is until about 6 months ago. I had fallen asleep on the sofa one evening, exhausted from a very hard day at work. My friend whom thinks just as do in terms of politics, decided to turn on the democratic election coverage. At this particular hour Obama was speaking, I'm not where he was at the time; I believe it was upon winning a large number of votes on Super Tuesday or something like that. My friend began to listen in on his speech and I was awaken by it instantly. I sat up and listened to the speech that Obama gave on that night, and Yes, I admit the momentum was very high. He had captured the American people and I could see why. He was phenomenal to watch, exciting to listen to, and he left you with a feeling of hope.
I was compelled at this moment to find out all I could on this candidate. I wanted to see who he was and what he truly had to offer the American people.
