TV commentary: Is Family Guy really a family show

Is Family Guy' a family show? That is a very interesting question. First you have to define what you consider a family show'. That topic has been debated for decades now.
When I was growing up we had a cartoon with a little Chihuahua who would beat on his obese feline friend who collected his boogers, only to find out in the more recent remake of the show that they were in fact gay. With the grotesque humor that was shown on that show which we all remember as Ren and Stimpy', which is far worse than Family Guy, we still watched it and no one came out scarred from the experience.

Now days, there are shows like Spongebob', South Park,' The Simpsons', and, of course, Family guy'.

What makes Family Guy' so unique is that it takes a more accurate stab at actual reality compared to those, funny yet more outlandish, shows. It takes an exaggerated look into the lives of a "typical" American family which most people can identify with in some aspect.

It features Peter and Lois Griffin as the parents. Their interaction with each other is much like that of a modern day couple on the verge of divorce. Peter, who is an obese, dumb as a door nail alcoholic who spends most of the time with his friends drinking or embarking on some sort of shenanigans. He hardly knows his own children and constantly takes his wife, Lois, for granted.

Lois, on the other hand, puts up with all his nonsense in the name of love. She takes care of their home and supports their kids, Chris, Stewie, and Meg (or shall I say Ron), the best she can. When Meg was down about spring break, who took her to MTV spring break and showed her how to have a good time? Lois. Who was turning tricks to help pay for Chris's tuition to Morning Wood Academy while Peter was selling Butt Scratchers? Lois. And who, despite all Stewie's attempts to kill her, who does she still refer to so lovingly as Mommy's Little Man? That's right, it is Lois. She tries her best to be a good role model, though in most people's eyes she fails quite miserably, she does her best to keep this family together.

Their children are as unique as they come. Chris, an overweight teenager is what I suspect to be mentally handicap. There is something wrong with him that his family completely over looks. He thinks there is an evil monkey living in his closet for crying out loud!

Meg, a typical teenaged girl who is quite embarrassed of her family and is looking for a way out. She is constantly teased about her looks (as do a lot of teenaged girls), mostly
