Poetry: Exile

by Erica Strickland

Trapped inside a hell that can not be left.
Light sucked from what vision I can see.
What is this place that I have been locked in?

Laying here on the cold wet floor,
A floor I have known so well,
Why now am I lost here unable to see the truth?

I am naked, stripped of all that I have.
All possessions taken from my hands.
How can I regain what I have lost?

Questions and Answers are all that I search for.
Lost in the world of Exile far from what I have known.
Why am I not scared?

The answers my dear ones is in the words.
I have been condemned to my own body.
This cell is my heart.

I am alone, castaway from all that is pure.
Stuck in the dungeon I have come to know.
I am numb, lifeless, and confused.

I have been exiled!
