Poetry: Thank you, Dad

by Crystal Cook

Created on: September 11, 2008

Thank you for teaching me . . .

Strength can be gentle
as soft rains from high above
Kindness can be tough
if it is not done out of love

Caring sometimes hurts
but it's a chance worth taking
Pain is sometimes healing
it is wholeness in the making

Faith really can move mountains
if you truly do believe
Fear can hide reality
if it is all you see

A whisper can be heard
clearer than a shout
A touch with tender strength
can lift the seeds of doubt

You've taught me many lessons
you've helped make me who I am
Sometimes you taught with words
other times a guiding hand

How can a simple thank you
ever be enough?
How can one repay
a selfless act of love?

You taught me how to live
you taught me how to see
and love with all my heart
because you believed in me
